Mag46 -- A New Year

Defrocked Christmas trees
grace dirty snow
awaiting gloved men
with noisy chippers

Mere days in --
gloves already off
resolutions chipped and worn
shine and ornamentation gone

Chipped trees segue to mulch
in a garden layer below
the snow, holding warmth
concealing new growth

I took some pictures of trees today --

I played around a little with these in PhotoShop.
It always makes me sad to see them tossed onto a snow bank --

The Boy Scout truck drove up and down my street several times today collecting trees ... your poem reminds us of how hard it is to keep those resolutions ~ and it's beautifully written.

It is sad to see them go. Hope you had a good holiday and are keeping warm.

Dismal, but probably true!

My grandfather would plant his old Christmas trees in the backyard. He got free trees, helped the environment, and didn't waste the money on having a tree for only a few weeks.

I too find it sad to see trees tossed by the side of the street. Somehow it seems to me all the joy and symbolism of the holiday...family, friends, religious meaning, kindness has been dumped and now it's life back to normal. Stress, sharp words, hurry-hurry, etc.
Yeah, I think too much.

Nice poetic reponse, Karen!
Here, they throw the old Christmas trees into Lake Winnebago for "fish habitat."
