MAG 27

The ABCs of Aging

As I age,
Bursitis in my hips
Corrosion in my colon
Darned if I don't appreciate ---
"every day above ground is a good one," my
father states.  I
grin and grind my teeth,
heavily sighing and
inanely giggling at the ridiculous
joy my
kids express while they
laugh at me trying to get up,
moaning whilst moving,
not quite able to
overcome the
popping in my joints.
Quickly now -- up!  Before the muscles
retract.  "Getting old ain't for
sissies," Dad says.  He keeps
telling me this; but
unlike him, I'm not brave or
valiant.  I
want to go without those
x-rays that show rapid deterioration; while I'm
young, vibrant and still
zealous and zany.

love these words: "while I'm
young, vibrant and still
zealous and zany." Because that's what I feel too! So very true! Great Magpie!

You paint a vivid image of being trapped in a body that has betrayed the owner.
Well done.

It amazes me when I realize the amount of groans and noise I produce while doing something as simple as rising from a seated position.

Where once I could put my large toe in my mouth, (WHY I once did it is incomprehensible to me)I can no longer take a step without an accompanying groan.
