Mag25

A rusty old lock
on my rusty old heart
the good and bad secreted inside
together like gum stuck to my shoe
on a hot summer day.

Step, scwintch, step, scwintch,
trying to run through the minefield
that life has become
tossed from bash to blast
like children skirt the cowpies
in the baseball diamond out back.

A rusty old lock on a splintery
sagging wooden gate,
missing its silver key --
all tarnished and black.

I have been an AWOL blogger for a week or so now because I have been working on the tiger and cow quilts.  I've almost finished the tigers -- all the blocks and inner borders are quilted.   I have only the last three borders to finish -- hopefully tomorrow.  I'll post pictures when it's done.

"step scwintch step scwintch . . ." such a great auditory image! I loved it, and also "tossed from bash to blast," but then I'm a bit of an alliteration junkie. Great magpie! (and your cow looks positively amazing -- the ears! wow.)

Robbie! The picture was posted on magpietales.blogspot.com as a creative prompt. You are invited to write a short story or poem and link back to the site. Check it out! There are fabulous writers there every week! I'm tickled that I can include myself.

I loved the sounds of the gum on the shoe! and the rhythm of sentence & image - like children skirt the cowpies/ in the baseball diamond outback - is just perfect!

Marvellous images - they add rich layers to the piece. Like this one: "like children skirt the cowpies in the baseball diamond out back."

Love this magpie especially the second stanza ! What a life...an emotional roller coaster of vivid moments that give birth to vivid imagery.
